Activities to enjoy with your children that you’ll also love

Travelling with children doesn’t mean giving up fun for adults. Coming to Andorra as a family is the perfect combination of winter sports in the countryside, entertainment and relaxation for all ages. If you’re planning a family getaway, here’s a selection of activities that your children will love, and that you will also enjoy like never before!

Snow plans for the whole family

If you’re looking for an experience to connect with nature, try a snowshoeing excursion, perfect for walking through snowy landscapes without difficulty. You can also go sledging, a favourite activity for children. For little explorers, mushing or dog sledding is an unforgettable experience that will captivate the whole family.

Fun in the snow for all levels

Of course, skiing is the star attraction, but you don’t have to be an expert to have fun. Grandvalira Resorts has areas for beginners so that children can learn safely, and you can accompany them or even take lessons to improve your technique. There are also circuits on the slopes for children up to the age of 12. These are themed tracks which, with obstacles and challenges, will help them to practise their turns and balance on the boards in a fun way. They will have a great time.

Naturland is an adventure park in the middle of the mountains.

Located in Sant Julià de Lòria, Naturland is the perfect place to spend a day in Andorra sharing activities with the whole family. Young and old alike will have a great time on the Tobotronc, the world’s longest alpine toboggan run. There are countless other proposals such as adventure circuits in the trees, moonbikes or snow scooters, two sustainable means of transport on the snow, which will allow you to discover an incredible part of Andorra, the Rabassa forest.

Adrenaline experience in Andorra with the family

If you are looking for more thrills, we also have options for you. You can go on the Mon(t) Magic zip line in Canillo, one of the longest in the Pyrenees.

Cultural plans are also on the agenda

Sometimes, the most surprising plans are the ones you least expect. In Andorra, the cultural offer is also an excellent option for families. You can visit the Miniature Museum, where the pieces are so small that you have to look at them with a magnifying glass, or the Automobile Museum, with a fascinating collection of antique cars that will impress both children and adults. And if you come during Carnival week, don’t miss the parades and activities that take place throughout the week. Discover the traditions of Carnival in Andorra.

Relax in hot springs with children’s areas

A day’s relaxation in Caldea may be the best way to round off a holiday in Andorra. This mountain spa is not only for adults: its children’s area is designed for children between the ages of 3 and 8, with water games supervised by monitors. While the kids are having fun, you can enjoy a relaxing treatment or simply bathe in the panoramic thermal water lagoon with views of the mountains.

Learn how to ski in Andorra to master the slopes like a pro

Andorra is an ideal destination for learning to ski thanks to its wide range of slopes, excellent ski schools and an infrastructure adapted to all levels. With options for both children and adults, Grandvalira Resorts has a unified method of ski schools in all its resorts. If you are looking for the perfect place to take your first steps in safety, we assure you that you will find it in Grandvalira. Read on and we’ll tell you all about it.

Ski schools for beginners

One of the main attractions of learning to ski or snowboard in Grandvalira is the quality of its schools. All the resorts follow a common methodology, guaranteeing a homogeneous learning process. In addition, they have some 800 instructors prepared to attend to skiers of up to 20 nationalities, ensuring that each person finds an instructor who speaks their language.
All this makes learning to ski in Andorra a comfortable and safe experience, especially for those who have never set foot on snow before.

Children have fun while they learn

When it comes to learning to ski, the little ones have a special place in Grandvalira. Children between the ages of 3 and 6 can learn by playing under the supervision of specialised instructors, while enjoying activities that combine skiing and playing in the snow in the snow gardens. The youngest children from the age of 1 can stay in the nurseries.
There are also Kids Programs for children from 3 to 11 years old, with ski or snowboard lessons, meals and activities.
There are also Kids Forest, themed circuits inspired by the fauna of Andorra, and Fun Cross circuits for more advanced children.
At Grandvalira Resorts, every detail is designed to make learning to ski a fun experience.

It’s never too late to start skiing

If you think skiing is only for young people, you’re wrong. Learning to ski in Andorra is accessible to all ages. The schools offer individual or group classes for adults, with instructors who adapt the techniques to the pace of each person.
Thanks to experienced instructors and first-class facilities, learning is safe and progressive. You can start on beginner slopes and progress to more challenging terrain as you gain confidence.
For many adults, skiing in Grandvalira is not only an opportunity to discover a new sport, but also to enjoy a unique natural environment. In addition, ski and snowboard groups are organised according to level, allowing for more personalised tuition.

Top Class for an exclusive and personalised skiing experience

Top Class is a premium service and, more than a ski lesson, it is an instructor service with completely personalised attention. The instructor acts as a personal ambassador for the resort, taking care of every detail to make the experience unbeatable. From managing restaurant reservations to selecting the right equipment or coordinating transfers. This service has become very popular with those who want to make the most of their stay in the snow.

From freeride to ski mountaineering

Skiing is evolving, and with it, the options for those looking for experiences beyond the traditional slopes. Ski mountaineering, freeriding and snowshoeing have become increasingly popular, prompting schools to adapt their offerings.

– Specialised training and safe circuits

To respond to this demand, Grandvalira created Grandvalira Mountain Guides, a specialised team that organises everything from beginners’ courses to routes around Andorra’s iconic peaks. With 10 years of experience, its aim is to ensure that skiers enjoy the natural environment in complete safety.
In addition, specific circuits and training in mountain safety have been designed, guaranteeing that both beginners and experts can perfect their technique without risk.

To make sure you don’t miss out on any of the details, here is a preview of what awaits you at Grandvalira Resorts.

Grandvalira Resorts resorts

All these ski resorts in Andorra are united under the same brand, Grandvalira Resorts, from the 2022-23 season:

With around 308 skiable kilometres and more than 200 slopes of different categories – black, red, blue and green– it offers options for all levels. Every skier will find their place here. Whether you’re just starting out or experienced enough to explore the most challenging corners of each resort. In addition to alpine skiing and snowboarding, you can also enjoy other disciplines, such as ski mountaineering, freeride or freestyle, thanks to the various snowparks spread throughout the resorts.

Grandvalira, the largest resort in the Pyrenees

It is formed by a total of seven sectors: Grau Roig, Pas de la Casa, Soldeu, El Tarter, Encamp, Canillo and Peretol. The latter is the most recently incorporated and offers the closest access to Els Llacs Mountain Apartments, from the Prat de les Pedres chairlift.
Grandvalira has 215 skiable kilometres, 140 pistes and its seven sectors are connected by pistes, as long as the snow conditions allow it.
Its popularity is also due to the fact that it is a regular venue for major international events, such as the Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals, a historic landmark in Andorra. It has also hosted competitions in other disciplines, such as the World Cup Final in Kilometre Launching.

Pal Arinsal, ideal for families and bikers

Pal Arinsal has 63 kilometres of skiable slopes and two sectors, accessible by road or by the La Massana cable car, located just 6 kilometres from the centre of Andorra. Both sectors are connected by the Coll de la Botella cable car, forming a domain with a total of 47 slopes for all levels. It also offers snow activities ideal for the whole family, including options for the youngest members of the family.

SNOW & BIKE: NEW FOR 2024-25

This season, 2024-25, Pal will be launching Ski&Bike, and will allow the Bike Park to open part of its facilities also during the winter. The resort will provide 16 kilometres of circuits, with a gradient of 700 metres, for the enjoyment of MTB lovers.

Ordino Arcalís: a freeride paradise

With 30 kilometres of pistes, it is the most northerly resort in the country and offers the best snow conditions every winter. Thanks to these conditions, it is one of the best places for freeriding. This fact is reflected in its international prestige, hosting annual competitions such as the Freeride World Tour.

The three domains under the same ski pass: the Andorra Pass in Grandvalira Resorts

When you buy the Grandvalira ski pass for 2 consecutive days or more, you can also access the Ordino Arcalís and Pal Arinsal slopes. This way, you can enjoy all the variety offered by the three domains.

puente de diciembre

Get ready to start the ski season in December

December means the start of the ski season and many people are eagerly awaiting its arrival to hit the slopes. If you also feel the need to put on your ski boots again, here are some tips to help you get organised with everything you need to make the most of your first snowy getaway!

1. Choose and book your accommodation at the foot of the slopes

One of the keys is to stay close to the resort to save time, avoid long journeys and last-minute queues. Another fundamental point is to book accommodation in advance to ensure your stay. Especially on dates as busy as the long weekend in December, when occupancy is high.

Book your accomodation in Andorra

At Els Llacs Mountain Apartments we have all the facilities: on our website you can buy the complete package of Apartment and ski pass in Grandvalira. You’ll also get an additional 10% discount, even on bookings for the long weekend in December! We have a good location in Bordes de Envalira, near the Peretol access to Grandvalira, between Soldeu and Grau Roig. For greater comfort, we offer you additional services such as ski lockers and free access to the spa, ideal for relaxing after a day of snow. Check here all the services of our apartments.

2. Have your ski equipment ready in advance

Once you’ve booked your stay, it’s time to check your ski equipment. Take note, it tends to deteriorate over time, and there’s nothing worse than arriving on the mountain and discovering it’s in poor condition.
Do a complete overhaul: check that your skis are well waxed, that your bindings are working properly and that your boots are in good condition. Check gloves, goggles, helmet and ski poles.
Another alternative available is to rent equipment, an option we also offer at Els Llacs Mountain Apartments. Write to us when you make your booking and we will advise you.

3. Make sure you have the right clothing

It’s also a good idea to try on your clothes before the long weekend in December so that you have everything ready.
Here is a basic checklist of the equipment you need:

  • Thermal under layers: choose underwear and a thermal T-shirt to keep you warm.
  • Fleece or second layer: ideal for retaining body heat without restricting movement.
  • Anorak and waterproof trousers: to resist the snow and keep you dry.
  • Essential accessories: helmet, waterproof gloves, suitable socks, neck warmer and sunglasses or goggles.

4. Keep in good physical condition

Skiing demands a lot of leg strength, so preparing your body before the season is a point you can’t overlook. You can start including leg and core strengthening exercises in your routine. This will not only help you enjoy skiing more, but also help you avoid injuries and overtiredness.

5. Consider booking ski lessons

If you’re a beginner or haven’t skied in a while, it’s a good idea to book some lessons with professional instructors. There are options for all levels and ages, from beginner courses where you’ll gain confidence with confidence to advanced classes to progress and improve your technique.
Remember that the first weekend in December and the Christmas and New Year’s Eve dates are high season and it is always best to book in advance. Els Llacs Mountain Apartments can also help you.

6. Check the forecast and the state of the slopes

Before jumping on your boards, it is important to know the state of the slopes and the weather. Grandvalira publishes daily updates on snow conditions and open slopes, which will help you plan your days better. The weather forecast is key to deciding which days are the most favourable for skiing or if you should modify your ski itinerary.

7. Plan your après-ski activities

The après-ski experience doesn’t end on the slopes: après-ski is the perfect time to enjoy with friends or family! Andorra offers endless options, such as spas, restaurants, bars, shops… Discover them here.

December is the perfect time to start the ski season. Take advantage of these tips and make sure everything is ready to enjoy an unforgettable holiday in the snow. Book your accommodation at the foot of the slopes and prepare your equipment to make the most of every minute on the mountain.
See you on the slopes!

An autumn tour to discover the cultural richness of Andorra

The autumn in Andorra is a season that offers not only spectacular, colourful landscapes, but also an opportunity to discover its history and culture. With the cooler days and the autumnal atmosphere, there is no better time to go on a museum tour. From world-class art to local history, you’ll find a variety of museums in the Principality that will make you see the country from a whole new perspective.
Best of all, you can make Els Llacs Mountain Apartments your base camp on this tour. This is where your tour of Andorra’s museums begins.

La Casa de la Vall: a must-see

History and culture are kept alive in the walls of this house museum. For a long time it was the most important house in Andorra. It was built at the end of the 16th century and until 2011 was the seat of the Consell General (the Andorran parliament).

– Discover its secrets

Today, you can visit various rooms that explain part of the history and where some of the most important decisions for the country have been taken. You can visit the Room of the Lost Steps, a noble room decorated with original murals from the 16th century. As well as the session room, the kitchen and symbolic elements such as the bell used to summon the Plenary and the Cupboard of the Seven Keys, which houses key historical documents of Andorra. The exterior is also worth a visit for its architecture and its location in the heart of the old quarter of Andorra la Vella.

Discovering Andorra’s ancient crafts

The Rossell Forge is an interactive museum to discover how iron production worked between the 17th and 19th centuries. A real forge that operated from 1842 to 1876 has been reconstructed to show the whole process through an interactive experience with audiovisuals. You will also be able to witness live the use of the hammer, a key part of the old iron production. It is located on the outskirts of La Massana, in the northern valley of Andorra.

The history of electricity in Andorra

Andorra’s energy production is closely linked to the country’s economic growth in the 1930s. The MW electricity museum explores concepts such as energy, electric current and how electricity is generated in a hydroelectric power station, as well as showing the evolution of electrification in Andorra during the 20th century. The last room offers interactive experiments to understand electrical phenomena, and exhibits the two original generators of the power station, installed in 1934.

The Carmen Thyssen Museum is a must for art lovers.

Carmen Thyssen’s prestigious private collection is on display here. Through a carefully themed line, this museum offers a unique artistic experience, located in a historic building in the heart of the country.
Even if you have already visited it, it is worth coming back, as the exhibition changes every year, always offering new and surprising works to discover. On this occasion, the exhibition ‘Sons.
