Easy dog-friendly trails in Andorra: 3 perfect options for you and your pet

Summer is here! And it’s the perfect time for those who want to spend some quality time with their pets in the countryside.
Andorra is a great place to come and enjoy the mountains, which hide some incredible places to go with your dog. From routes for those who like to go out and test themselves on the most complicated slopes to those who prefer a more leisurely walk. Both options have one thing in common: wherever you go, you’ll enjoy the surroundings.

3 easy dog walks for everyone

We show you ways to have fun with your pet in Andorra with three easy routes so you can go whether you have a large, small or senior dog. They are ideal for enjoying nature effortlessly and ensuring your dog is comfortable and safe. Don’t leave anyone at home and experience unforgettable moments with your faithful friend in these beautiful landscapes!

Trekking to l’Estany Primer de Pessons

The first excursion is near Els Llacs Mountain Apartments, in the Grau Roig sector of Grandvalira. It is a good option for an easy hike with your dog and to discover a mountain lake located at an altitude of 2300 metres.
Duration: approximately 1.30 hours
Difficulty level: easy to moderate
Distance: 1.5 km
Start at the car park in the Cubil area, where you will find the signs that will take you through the forest to the lake. As the climb is not very difficult, you can observe nature while your dog enjoys discovering an environment different from his own. Once you reach Primer de Pessons lake, you can stop with your dog at the refuge’s restaurant. To go back down, you can go back down the same way you came up or return along the forest track. If you are up for it, a good option is to reach the other lakes of Pessons, although from here the route is somewhat harder.

Inter-parish path from Prats to Engolasters

This route is much longer, but has hardly any gradient. You will enjoy an accessible trail that has it all: Romanesque churches, breathtaking views, forest and rest points.
Duration: 4 hours
Difficulty: easy
Distance: 11.8 km
It is called inter-parish because it crosses Canillo, Encamp and Escaldes. As Els Llacs Mountain Apartments is in Canillo, we recommend you start here from the church of Sant Miquel de Prats to get to Sant Miquel d’Engolasters. Although it is not difficult at all, because you will hardly notice the 200 metres of difference in altitude, you should plan to walk 4 hours with your dog on the way there and 4 more on the way back. In addition, of course, you should bring enough water and food for everyone. In this article you will find tips for hiking with your dog in the mountains.

The Comapedrosa interpretative circuit

This circular hike is ideal for the whole family, as it is highly recommended for the youngest members of the family. It is located in the Comapedrosa Natural Park, in the parish of La Massana.
Duration: 1.30 hours
Difficulty: easy
Distance: 1.2 km
On this walk you will follow 10 panels that will help you to get to know nature at close quarters, to identify the environment and the terrain. While you follow the indications, your pet will also enjoy an outdoor excursion. It starts at the picnic area of the Pollós river and ends at the Arinsal dam.

You can come to Els Llacs Mountain Apartments with your dog

Make your holiday a unique experience with your pet

Nowadays, pets are an important part of the family. We rely on them more and more, even for holidays. Aspects such as choosing a destination, means of transport, accommodation and even activities often revolve around them. Beyond their simple companionship, travelling with your pet can have a significant impact on both your well-being and theirs. Not only do they enrich your experiences, but they also bring multiple benefits, which we detail below.

Strengthen your bond

By sharing new experiences and adventures, from hiking in the mountains to exploring downtown Andorra, mutual understanding and trust grows. This quality time, without the day-to-day rush, allows for a deeper connection, strengthening the emotional bond. So, travelling with your pet can strengthen your bond.

Travelling with pets enhances the experience

Pets often lead us to explore places we might otherwise overlook, such as secluded parks, off-the-beaten-path trails or mutually-friendly hiking trails. This different, pet-centred perspective allows you to discover hidden gems.

You meet other animal lovers

Both animals and their owners can benefit from interacting with new people and other pets. It gives you the opportunity to meet other travellers or local dog walkers in your area, which enriches your trip.

Improves physical health

Of course, travelling with your pet ensures a minimally active holiday. Exploring new environments, walking on unfamiliar trails or playing with your pet are great forms of exercise that benefit both of you. This outdoor physical activity not only improves fitness, but also contributes to overall wellbeing.
Discover trails for all levels to do with your dog that we propose in this article of our blog.

Accommodation to stay with your dog

In general, Andorra is a destination that welcomes pets and offers many plans in nature. At Els Llacs Mountain Apartments we are pet friendly because we know that it is very important to you that your dog accompanies you everywhere. We offer spacious and comfortable holiday flats open all year round and designed to accommodate from 2 to 11 guests, with clearly defined spaces and well equipped with everything you need. We are located in Bordes, opposite Grandvalira.

Aspects to bear in mind when travelling with your pet

When travelling with your pet, you will have to take certain measures to cover their needs and adapt to unforeseen circumstances.

– Plan your journey well

If you are travelling by car, most likely if you are coming to Andorra, you will have to plan your stops to stretch your legs and feed and water your dog.

– Pack your pet’s “suitcase”

It is necessary to take with you everything he may need, such as his food, toys, water for the trip, medicines (if any) and his documentation. Remember that you have to cross a border and that Andorra has its own regulations regarding pets. Consult them here.

– Adapt your pet before travelling

If you are going to spend many hours travelling and your pet is not used to it, it would be a good idea to travel a few days beforehand so that it can gradually adapt.
In this article we complete all the details to take into account when travelling by car with your pet.

Travelling with your pet opens up a world of shared experiences that benefit you both. From strengthening bonds to promoting physical health, the possibilities for exploring together are virtually limitless. So next time you’re planning an adventure, consider taking your companion along.
We look forward to seeing you!

Andorra: the ideal destination for a holiday in the mountains with your dog

Discover a dog-friendly hike with your dog in Andorra!
If you’re a lover of outdoor activities and you also have a loyal four-legged friend, then you can’t miss hiking with your dog in Andorra. The country offers a unique and diverse natural environment, where both you and your furry companion will enjoy yourselves to the full.

Dog-friendly hikes in Andorra

Andorra has a large number of trails and paths that are perfect for walking with your dog. From quiet walks in the forest to more demanding excursions in the mountains. There are options for all levels and tastes: inform yourself thoroughly before starting a hike and choose one that suits your physical condition. It is also important to be properly equipped with mountain clothing and footwear, a hat, sun cream and good hydration. Remember to keep your dog on a leash at all times.
Here is an itinerary that you can do well with the whole family.

Excursion to the Estanyó Lake

The hike starts in the Sorteny nature park in the Ordino biosphere reserve, the starting point for this and other hikes.
From the information hut you will have to climb almost to the top of the Borda De Sorteny refuge. On this first stretch you will come across the sculpture commemorating the stripagecs, by the Andorran artist Pere Moles. Five 8-metre-high figures recreate the iron bars that were once placed on the windows of houses to protect them from thieves. Right next to it you’ll find a small botanical garden with some of the species found in the park. If you take the route with your dog and your children, they will enjoy learning the names of the plants and flowers.
As we said, you have to continue until you almost reach the refuge, which is open in summer and has a restaurant service (if you are interested in staying for lunch, we recommend that you make a reservation beforehand). A little further on you will find a turning on the right that shows you the way to the Estanyó lake. First there is a short descent to the river and then a path that climbs up through the forest. This is the steepest climb of the entire route, with about 200 metres of ascent. Once you leave the trees behind, the path is gentler and follows the river upwards until you reach the lake.
It takes about 2 hours one way and 2 hours return, with a moderate difficulty.
To get to the Sorteny park, you have to go to the parish of Ordino. In the summer months the car park is payable from 8.30 am (€4). If you arrive before that time, you can park for free and avoid the hottest hours of the day.

Pet-friendly flats

After enjoying this trail with your dog, you’ll need a comfortable and cosy place to rest. In our spacious and comfortable flats we welcome guests with pets, where you can relax and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere.
In this article you will find tips for enjoying the mountains with your dog and the information you need to know about travelling to Andorra with a pet. Please note that we apply a surcharge of €10 per pet per night.

There’s no better way to enjoy a holiday than doing what you love with your pet. So don’t think twice, get ready for an unforgettable adventure in Andorra! Explore its wonderful routes, admire its natural beauty and stay in pet-friendly flats to enjoy a perfect stay. Your dog will thank you and you’ll have unforgettable moments together, so pack your bags!

planes de verano

3 Plans to make the most of the summer in Andorra

In Andorra, the hottest season of the year is packed with outdoor activities, where the mountains and nature are the main protagonists. There are many options for all tastes. To give you an idea of what you can do, we’ve prepared 3 summer plans that you won’t be able to resist, and there won’t be a second left for boredom. Would you like to discover them?

Adventures in the heart of nature

The first of the 3 summer plans starts at Naturland. For this you’ll have to take the car and head for Sant Julià, the first town you come to when you arrive from Spain. The adventure park is located in La Rabassa and offers a wide range of activities. From exploring routes on foot, in a buggy or on horseback, climbing the zip line with curves through the trees, archery, jumping on the xtrem jump or discovering the farm animals, among others. Not forgetting the famous Tobotronc, an alpine slide through the forest on the way up and an adrenaline rush on the way down. It is the star attraction of the park and is great fun.
There is no doubt that you will spend an incredible day with a variety of activities suitable for the whole family.

Recharge your energy in the hot springs

After a day of emotions, before coming to rest at the holiday flats, we recommend you to make a stop at Caldea. It is the visit that you can combine with everything when you travel to Andorra. Take a bath in its thermal waters and enjoy the Thermoludic spaces if you go with children from 5 years old or in Inúu if you prefer an Adults Only experience. In both cases you can watch the sunset while you bathe in the jacuzzi of the panoramic lagoon over the river. An experience that you have to live when you go to the thermal centre.
From reception we can arrange your booking so that you don’t miss out on this or the rest of the summer plans.

One of the summer plans you can’t miss out on

Last year Canillo opened the second longest Tibetan bridge in Europe. It is the newest activity you can do in Andorra (last summer it was a great success and this one promises to be a repeat). The Canillo suspension bridge is a metal footbridge 600 metres long, 158 metres high and situated at an altitude of 1875 metres. It is the perfect vantage point from which to enjoy incredible views of the valley and the surrounding mountains. This plan comes with a double offer because you can buy it in a pack with the Roc del Quer. Another of Andorra’s must-see places.
To buy your ticket, you can do so via the website or at the Canillo tourist office.

Rest in style at Els Llacs Mountain Apartments

The tourist flats located in Bordes d’Envalira are what you need to regain your strength after enjoying your summer plans during the day in Andorra. Here you can sleep soundly without worrying about the heat, as we are located in the mountains and the temperature is always more pleasant.
Our holiday flats are 100% equipped and very comfortable. We have spacious flats that will make you feel at home when you stay with the whole family. Besides, we are pet friendly, so you can come with your pet without any problem.

Are you already feeling the adrenaline rushing through your body? This is the sign you need to book your holidays at Els Llacs Mountain Apartments and come and enjoy the best summer plans. If you already know where you want to start when you book your flat, don’t hesitate to contact us so that we can arrange tickets for these activities or others, we’ll be waiting for you!

Monumentos de Andorra

Free tour of the sculptures and open-air monuments of Andorra

Our article gives you ideas on how to organise some tours of Andorra’s monuments. Some of them you already know, but you are sure to discover at least one new one. What they have in common is that you can combine them with other activities, they don’t cost anything and most of them are accessible to dogs.

One of Andorra’s most famous monuments

La noblesse du temps” is located in the square of the roundabout, over the Valira river. You’re likely to come across it while shopping in the country’s most central streets. The sculpture created by Salvador Dalí symbolises the passing of time. The crown on the clock is the artist’s representation of the dominion of time over humanity.
Another interesting spot is just behind this piece of art: the Paris Bridge, with the famous Andorra la Vella letters that light up at night. It is one of the most Instagrammable places in the capital. Many families and couples stop in front of the sculpture to have their photo taken with the sign in the background.

A stroll through a fairytale village in Sant Julià

Auvinyá is a small village of “relatively” new construction, resulting from a private initiative. It is an urbanisation recreated as a small medieval village built with wood, stone and slate, with details that will transport you back to this period. The Casa Auvinyà vineyards are also located here, famous for the production of their high altitude wine, which you can also visit (for a fee).
There is still more… Now that you are in this part of Sant Julià, follow the road to La Rabassa and reach the Juberri gardens. Another magical place where art and nature merge. You’ll be amazed by the sculptures of animals, famous monuments of great cities and mythological beings scattered throughout the area.

A cup of tea in the mountains

It sounds like a great plan, but this is another sculpture . If you’re a fan of Andorra, you’re sure to know it: it’s the famous “Storm in a teacup” that you can see at Coll de la Botella, near Pal. A large metal structure that recreates a cup on a giant plate. To get there you will pass through Pal, another mountain village where it is well worth making a stop and strolling through its streets. If you’re travelling with children, don’t miss the route through the “Forest of the Menairons”, where these magical creatures live. These three visits are no problem for you and your four-legged companion.

Art in the middle of nature

Another sculpture that you are sure to be familiar with. It is located in the Arcalís ski resort at an altitude of 2,155 metres and is called “Punto sublime” (Sublime Point). The way it is inclined, it looks as if this giant “O” has to roll down the side of the mountain. You can combine this visit with the solar viewpoint and it is also the starting point for mountain routes, such as the Tristaina lakes. All of them, routes to share with your four-legged friend and suitable for children too.

An authentic mediaeval bridge

Another of Andorra’s monuments is the Margineda Bridge. Built in the 15th century, it is the only one of its kind still standing in the country: 33 metres long and with a single arch of nine and a half metres. It is located on the old royal road that leads to Andorra la Vella from Sant Julià and across the Valira River. You can get there on foot from the capital or by car.

These are some of Andorra’s outdoor sculptures and monuments, but there are many more. As most of the routes are pet-friendly, you can enjoy them with your dog.
Have you already chosen which one do you prefer?

Andorra with a dog at Easter Week

Don’t leave anyone at home this Easter! Our flats in Bordes d’Envalira are spacious and pet-friendly so you can stay comfortably with your pet as one of the family.
In April, the days are usually sunny and the temperatures are pleasant. So we invite you to discover some of the hiking routes to enjoy with your dog this long weekend and to rest in the most relaxed way at Els Llacs Mountain Apartments.
Let’s go with the routes! They are very easy itineraries that you can do with a small dog or even if you are travelling with a senior dog.

Walks through beautiful landscapes with your dog

For this occasion we recommend the Camí de les Pardines, located in Encamp, which goes from Els Cortals to Engolasters lake. It is a gravel path of approximately 3.5 kilometres at an altitude of 1,700 metres with views of the village of Encamp. Access is easy both from Els Cortals d’Encamp and from Engolasters lake. Along the way you will come across a botanical garden and a small waterfall, as well as being able to see an old coal bunker. Your pet will have a great time outdoors enjoying nature.

A path in Andorra la Vella

This route is also very easy to access, suitable for the whole family and for your dog. The Rec de Solà is in Andorra la Vella at the foot of the Pico del Carroi. It is a cobbled path that follows a small irrigation stream with views of the towns of Andorra la Vella and Escaldes. It is practically flat with a distance of about 3 kilometres, ideal to do in spring in the middle of the day to enjoy the sun and a relaxing walk with your pet. The path also has a small picnic area where you can stop for a snack.

The Camí de les Fonts in Engolasters

Another route to do with your pet is the fountain trail in Engolasters, in Escaldes. This is an easy route that you can enjoy at this time of year. You will walk through the forest and the route has only a slight slope. Halfway along the route there is a viewpoint with spectacular views of the valley and the church of Sant Miquel d’Engolasters. On this circuit your pet will have a great time walking in nature.
Bonus: when you reach the end of the path, if the day is fine and you feel like walking a little further, you can start the ascent to the Coll Jovell, with views over the Madriu Valley. When you get there, you can return along the same path or, after about 50 metres on the left, take the Costa de l’Avet path to the picnic area and the Closa fountain. From there, you can take the forest track that will take you to the road (where you will come across a sculpture) where you will turn left to go to the Engolasters huts. At this point, you should take the stone path that passes between the huts and crosses the forest until you reach a crossroads. Take the one on the right, indicated by yellow circles, until you reach the road. After going down a few metres, you will come to the Camí del Cortalet, on the left hand side. A wide path with little slope that will take you back to the Camí de les Fonts.

Travelling with your dog to Andorra

To come to Andorra with your dog you must comply with the following requirements:
– They must be identified with a chip.
– Be vaccinated against rabies.
– Have the pet passport duly signed and stamped.

Flats to stay with your dog

Enjoy the Easter long weekend in Andorra with your pet in complete comfort. At Els Llacs Mountain Apartments we are pet friendly so you won’t leave any member of the family at home.

In summer, enjoy the mountains with your dog in Andorra

Andorra is undoubtedly a pet-friendly destination, ideal if you’re travelling with your dog. Summer is the season to enjoy the mountains, nature and the great outdoors. So that you can do it with the whole family, here are some tips for hiking with your pet and making the most of the experience.

Tips for hiking with your dog

Here are some recommendations to make the most of hiking in the mountains with your pet.

– Plan the route before setting off

Before starting out, you need to know the terrain, the duration and the distance in order to plan the necessary equipment for both you and your dog. It is also best to avoid steep slopes, via ferrata areas or suspension bridges as these can be difficult for your pet to access. Areas with water are ideal for them to have fun.

– Take into account the physical endurance of the animal

Start with easy hiking routes with your dog if he is sedentary or has never been in the mountains before, so that he can get used to them little by little.

– Check the type of terrain

When choosing a hike, make sure that the type of terrain will not damage your dog’s paws and pads. Avoid paved areas – at least in central hours of the day when it gets very hot – or very rocky or icy areas.  You also have the option of protecting his pads with specialised dog equipment.

– Plan for water

When you’re hiking with your dog, you’ll need to take your provisions with you and your dog. Don’t forget that he also needs to be hydrated

– Keep your dog on a leash

It is advisable to keep your dog on a leash at all times, as there may be routes where they may cross paths with other animals, or they may get lost if they don’t know the place.

Routes for hiking with a dog

Andorra offers endless options. Today we tell you about two excursions that you will love:

– Montmalús Lake

This is a hiking route that starts at the Grau Roig resort, near the flats. It is about 5 kilometres long and has a gradient of 600 metres.  You will reach an altitude of 2,700 metres and enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the Pessons glacial cirque in Andorra. And when you get there… Reward! Your dog can take a dip in the lake. Before doing the route we advise you to check the weather forecast.

– The iron route

This route is easy to access and very entertaining. The path is full of sculptures and monuments dedicated to metallurgy, a very important industry for Andorra until the end of the 19th century. Travelling to Andorra with your pet

You probably already know this information by heart, but it’s a good idea to keep it handy.

– Rabies vaccination.

– The pet passport.

If you come from a country outside the European Union you will also have to present a health certificate and declare it at customs. If you are travelling with any other type of wild animal, whether native or not, you will have to request a permit from the Andorran Government.
