This season is going to be very special: the slopes will be full of skiers once again. Don’t get left behind and be among the first to hit the snow for the December long weekend. Start preparing your equipment and mark the days until the 3rd of December, the date announced by Grandvalira for its opening.

 

Back to skiing in Grandvalira in December

The start of the season is here and the most eagerly awaited for snow lovers who, like you, were unable to ski last year as a precautionary measure against COVID-19. However, this year will be different and if the situation does not worsen, everything points to the fact that we will be able to ski again with more or less normality.

Discover our offers with ski pass in Grandvalira and accommodation in Els Llacs Mountain Apartments. The ski pass gives you access to all the Grandvalira sectors that are connected by ski lifts and chairlifts, and you will be able to access from any of them.

New for the 2021-22 season, with the same pass, you can also ski the Ordino-Arcalís slopes, located in the northern valley of the country.

 

Closer access to the slopes

For the last two seasons, Grandvalira has had a new sector giving access to the domain: the Peretol, located just opposite Els Llacs Mountain Apartments. For skiers’ convenience, the resort has a free shuttle service from 9am to 5pm for all skiers staying at Bordes d’Envalira.

From Peretol you will get to the slopes more quickly and you won’t have to go to Grau Roig or Soldeu if you don’t want to. The Pla de les Pedres chairlift, which has become the longest in Andorra, will take you straight to Funicamp!

Also, if you are a freerider, you can’t miss the snowpark located in this sector, which you can enjoy under the stars as it is open from 15h to 21h.

Our flats are known to be very spacious (as well as comfortable), but you don’t need to take all your ski equipment with you. To make it easier for you and to avoid you having to carry everything to the flat, we have a ski storage room with camera surveillance, where you can leave your equipment until the next day. You can also use our transfer service to take you to and from the slopes, so that you don’t have to touch the car once it’s parked in the car park. If you prefer, you can also travel light and let experts advise you on how to rent and buy what you need in the Shusski ski equipment shop located in our hotel Park Piolets in Soldeu.

This year, try your hand at ski touring

If you love snow sports in general and skiing in particular, this is a good time to take up ski touring. At the Els Llacs Mountain Apartaments we suggest activities for you to continue enjoying the snow in Andorra this year.

 

Get started in ski touring with NWPD

The company NWPD offers a very complete course to learn the tricks of this discipline. A professional mountain guide will teach you the secrets and techniques to introduce you to ski touring. The activity lasts between 5 and 6 hours, starts in the morning and is done in a group. To get the most out of it, it is done on terrain with perfect snow and weather conditions. But don’t worry, because it is very close to the flats.

The class, as we said at the beginning, is very complete and is done in different stages. First of all, the instructor will introduce the group to the equipment and explain how to use it. Then, he will start with the basic techniques of ski mountaineering to teach you how to move. In addition, the instructor will also teach you notions on how to draw a safe circuit and how to recognise the traps in the terrain to avoid accidents. With him, you will practice ascents and descents and he will also give you a lot of tips that only a good professional can give you.

 

Equipment needed for ski mountaineering

To do the course you will need: cross-country skis, poles, skins and blades (recommended). Safety equipment: DVA, shovel and probe. You will also need to take out insurance, although if you don’t have it, you can take it out when you register for the course. Both the equipment and the technical and warm clothing (trousers and ski jacket) can be rented at the Park Piolets hotel, of which we are part.

 

Freeride on Pic Maià

Another of the activities offered by this company (and also with expert guides) is an off-piste skiing course. But for this activity we will have to wait for a good downhill and ideal conditions to be able to enjoy it to the full. The area where it takes place is Pic Maià.

In Andorra there are many snow activities that you have to try at least once in your life. That’s why we at Els Llacs Mountain Apartments are offering you 2 offers with activities that you can’t miss out on. It is possible to enjoy the valleys, peaks and snowy landscapes in Grandvalira without having to put on your skis or snowboard, and what’s more, these proposals are very close to us!

Mushing: the winter sensation

From the flats we propose you an offer with nights stay combined with a dog sledding excursion. Feel as if you were in Lapland while you travel through snowy landscapes and pine forests. The dogs, properly trained, will pull the sledge guided by a professional musher. It is an ideal snow activity for the whole family, as there is capacity for a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children. Snowmobiles are a must

A snowmobile tour is ideal to let off some adrenaline while you drive yourself. An ideal snow activity to try this winter or to repeat if you already know it. You can do it as a couple and also with your child if he/she is older than 7 years old, but driving is for people over 18 years old. Other snow activities

In Andorra you’ll find more alternatives to alpine skiing that you can do this winter. Such as guided snowshoeing excursions or going on your own. If you feel like sliding down the snow, you can do it after ski mountaineering or try cross-country skiing. These activities are perfect for enjoying nature while practising outdoor sports.

We have an extra proposal to complement the snow activities to enjoy good gastronomy: a stay with dinner at the Winter pop up restaurant Kao Soldeu. It is located in the Park Piolets hotel, in Soldeu, just 2 minutes by car from our mountain flats. Here you can taste the delights of Chinese haute cuisine, including the famous Peking Duck, the restaurant’s star dish. As well as the traditional dim sum and dishes based on rice, noodles, meat and fish, you will love it!
